A Fort Carson soldier found dead Monday morning in a base barracks room was a member of the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) from Oklahoma who has been in the Army just 11 months.
Pfc. Kyle J. Walls, 21, arrived at the Mountain Post on Sept. 5. His death remains under investigation, Fort Carson officials said Wednesday.
Walls, of Ponca City, Okla., had not been deployed, though he was the recipient of the Army’s commendation, good conduct and national defense service medals. He also had a basic parachutist badge.
“It is always hard to lose a part of our military family,” the base said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Walls’ family and friends during this very difficult time.”
Early this month, Staff Sgt. Adam S. Thomas, another 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) soldier from Fort Carson, was killed by an improvised explosive device blast in Afghanistan. Thomas, a highly decorated, eight-year member of the Army who had been deployed several times, was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
