Kyrgyz President Mandates SDPK to Form New Ruling Coalition in Parliament

Kyrgyzstan's President Almazbek Atambayev on Wednesday gave the country's Social Democratic Party (SDPK) a mandate to form a ruling coalition in the Kyrgyz parliament, the Jogorku Kenesh, Atambayev's office said in a statement.

BISHKEK (Sputnik) On Monday, the SDPK faction withdrew from the governing parliamentary coalition. On Wednesday, the country's government resigned following the coalition's break-up.

"On October 26, Kyrgyzstan's President Almazbek Atambayev received Isa Omurkulov, the leader of the SDPK parliamentary faction and delegated him an authority to form a coalition of majority in the parliament," the statement read.

Atambayev's office added that the SDPK should form the coalition and name a candidate for a post of the country's prime minister no later than on November 17, 2016.

Six parties have seats in the 120-strong Kyrgyz parliament, namely the SDPK, Respublika–Ata-Zhurt, Kyrgyzstan, Onuguu-Progress, Bir Bol and Ata Meken.
