A fire broke out at Kolkata's Don Bosco school today afternoon creating panic among students and parents alike.

A fire broke out at Kolkata's Don Bosco school on Wednesday afternoon creating panic among students and parents alike. The fire reportedly started at the top floor of the school building where some papers and mats had been stored.

There were about 3000 students inside the school building located in the busy Park Circus area where the incident took place. Four fire tenders immediately rushed to the school. However the fire the fire was promptly doused by the school authority using its internal fire fighting system within a few minutes.

Parents who had gathered outside the school during lunch time panicked as news of the fire spread. However all the students were safely evacuated and brought outside on the school playground on time.

Later in a statement, school principal Father Bikash Mondal said that the fire may have been caused by a cigarette bud dropped by construction workers working on the terrace. "It was brought under control in a few minutes by all the workers with the help of the internal fire safety system. There is nothing to panic, everything is normal," Mondal said.
