It seems that Fair City resident Katy O'Brien's terrifying ordeal at the hands of her kidnapper is far from over.

Tensions on the Carrigstown soap cranked up a notch this week as viewers had a first look at the man holding her.

Sadly, her captor had his face covered with a mask, meaning the suspense is set to continue.

Feeling frustrated and alone, Katy can't take it any more and lashes out, furiously trashing her room while roaring in rage at her captor.

Shortly afterwards, exhausted after her outburst, Katy falls asleep on her bed.

While she is sleeping the door silently opens and her captor, wearing a balaclava, enters, surveys the wreckage of the room and watches an exhausted Katy sleep.

Wearing a black mask, jeans and check shirt, her mysterious abductor leans over her menacingly.

The youngster went missing from Carrigstown last May after finding out about her mother Debbie's affair with Tommy.

After she failed to keep in touch with her family, her dad Eoin became more and more worried.

However, guilty wife Debbie was convinced that Katy was just staying away to punish her for her dirty deed with Tommy.

Soon, concern reached breaking point and her desperate family got the gardai involved, convinced some ill fate had befallen her.

In the show's 4,000th episode last month, things took an even more sinister turn when Katy was seen to be alive, but being held captive in a small cell.

In recent episodes, she got increasingly frustrated at her situation, refusing to eat and erupting in rage at her imprisonment.

The kidnapper has also been taunting Katy with information about her family - leaving a newspaper article for her that told how her father, Eoin, had been cleared of causing the death of her brother, Michael, last year.

Since Katy's disappearance, her parents have split up and Eoin learned of his wife's infidelity with Tommy leaving the ex-couple at logger heads.

In other Fair City happenings, tonight sees long suffering wife Niamh ramp up her campaign to get revenge on cheating husband Paul.

Dermot, who is hiding a cancer battle and scheming with friend Niamh to rid Paul of all his money, tells her that their plan is ready to go.

Niamh however is concerned when she sees Dermot leaning on his desk for support.

Just when accountant Dermot calls on Paul to get him to sign the paperwork which unknowingly would relinquish him of his assets, Paul begins to get cold feet about the deal.
