Search team on Kedarnath trekking route finds 19 skeletons of those who perished in 2013 floods

The number of skeletons found in the last 10 days has gone up to 52. The mortal remains are of those who lost their lives in the floods of 2013.

On Tuesday, a search team on the Kedarnath trekking route in Uttarakhand came across 19 more human skeletons, an official said according to a IANS report.

After finding more than 30 skeletal remains in the last 10 days, the team has found 19 more taking the number to 52.

The team of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) consigned the mortal remains to flames on the banks of Soneprayag river and the DNA samples were taken before the cremation.

The search operations were ordered by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat after some skeletons were found on the Kedarnath's trekking route.

These skeletal remains are believed to be of those who have perished in the flash floods of 2013 where thousands were killed and many went missing.

A second phase of the search operations would be launched from November 2, after Diwali, an official said.

In the last three years, as many as 665 skeletons have been found.
