82-year-old woman's kidneys save man's life

Kidneys of an 82-year-old brain dead woman were transplanted in the body of Mahendra Bagadia, 53, of Gandhinagar on Monday. Jiviben Davaria, a resident of Adajan, fell unconscious on the night of October 23.

SURAT: Kidneys of an 82-year-old brain dead woman were transplanted in the body of Mahendra Bagadia, 53, of Gandhinagar on Monday. Jiviben Davaria, a resident of Adajan, fell unconscious on the night of October 23. She was treated in BAPS Hospital and then at Wockhardt Hospital but was declared brain dead on October 24.
Bachu Davaria, Magan Davaria, Bharat Davaria and Dinesh Davaria decided to donate the organs of their mother.
The brothers, who are into business and private service, said, "Our mother was very spiritual. She had expressed her wish that her organs be donated after her death."
Doctors of Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre, Ahmedabad accepted her two kidneys and liver as donation while the eyes were given to Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank.
The liver will be used for research by the doctors.
