VADODARA: In wake of the major fire that broke out at the Polo Ground firecracker market in 2012, the Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services (VFES) has imposed strict measures at the site that now has 23 shops.
"For the first time, we have insisted that pressurized water sprinklers are used at the market. This will ensure that if a fire breaks out, it can be controlled using the sprinklers and one need not rush to the shop with extinguishers.
Like previous years, a fire engine will also be kept there," said in-charge VFES chief fire officer Deepak Gunjal. Gunjal added that demonstration and training of firefighting have also been conducted for those present at the shop. VFES is also insisting that at any given time, one person well-versed with firefighting should be present at a shop.
