Saini attackers released

Youths arrested on the charge of attempt to murder Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini were released from the district prison today.

As the police had dropped the charge of attempt to murder, a local court had granted them bail yesterday.

Kurukshetra Jail Superintendent Som Nath Jagat said Harikesh, one of the five accused, was wanted in another criminal case in Rohtak. Following a court order, he was handed over to the Rohtak authorities.

The police had arrested five Jat youths, all belonging to Budhana village in Hisar.

It was alleged that after splashing an oily substance, the accused tried to throttle the MP. Saini was also allegedly roughed up by the accused on October 16 at a dharamshala here.

However, a special investigating team (SIT) probe recommended dropping charge of attempt to murder in the case.

A medical examination report of the MP confirmed that there was no injury mark on or around the neck, concluding there was no visible attempt of strangling Saini. A chemical analysis of the oily substance also clarified that it was not harmful. — TNS
