Somerset caravan park shooting: Wilfred Isaacs Senior 'killed in feud'

A grandfather was shot dead in a long-running feud between two traveller families, a court has heard.

Wilfred Isaacs Senior, 49, died and his son, Wilfie Isaacs Junior was injured at the Chubbards Cross caravan park, near Ilminster, Somerset on 5 May.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Charlie Broadway, 24, wounded Mr Isaacs Jnr, 22, before killing his father.

Mr Broadway and his brothers, John , 37, and Billy, 18, deny murder and attempted murder.

Jurors heard tensions had been running high between the two families, who had "fallen out", for almost two years.

Prosecutor William Mousley QC said the Broadway family was known to keep shotguns and would often shoot at the caravan site to intimidate the Isaacs family.

The prosecution alleged that Wilfred Isaacs Senior was shot dead in front of his family following a vicious altercation involving Charlie Broadway, Mr Isaacs Snr and his son,

Mr Mousley told the court: "Wilfred Isaacs was shot dead not far from his home in front of his partner, two sons and young granddaughter.

"His son Wilfie Jnr was also shot but luckily for him his injuries were not severe and he survived.

"Charlie then pointed the gun at Wilfred Isaacs Snr's partner Pam and then pointed the gun at Wilfie Jnr's daughter, telling her to go inside or she would also be shot."

The prosecutor added: "The gun was fired from close range by Charlie Broadway. He had been handed the gun by his younger brother Billy and Billy had fetched the gun following instructions given to him by their oldest brother John.

"As such they are all responsible for the murder of Wilfred Isaacs Snr and the attempted murder of Wilfie Isaacs Jnr."
