Two masked men armed with weapons today attacked a J&K Bank branch in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and looted around Rs 3 lakh.

The armed men also ransacked the branch at Kadyer village of Kulgam before fleeing.

According to reports, the men came on a motorcycle and barged into the bank this morning.

Since the unrest, most of the J&K Bank branches have been functioning in the early hours.

“The miscreants harassed the bank employees and looted Rs 2.96 lakh from the cash counter of the bank,” said a senior police officer from Kulgam. He said the looters immediately fled the scene. “We were intimated by the bank officials soon after,” he added.

The police and the Army reached the area and carried out searches to nab the attackers.

Superintendent of Police, Kulgam, Sreedhar Patil said the police had started investigation into the matter.
