Dead Bawaria gangster arrested after 13 years

GREATER NOIDA: In the fifth such arrest within a year, the Noida Special Task Force (STF) has nabbed a 50-year old member of the Bawaria gang who was absconding since 13 years from Kasna area of Greater Noida, even as his family organised his “terahvi ceremony” during his absconsion.
50-year-old Nanhe alias Raju alias Brij Kishore, who carries a Rs. 5000 award on his head was nabbed from the Pi 3 Gol Chakkar of Greater Noida in the wee hours on Tuesday.
He has a case of voluntarily causing hurt in robbery attempt, murder, one under Arms Act and one of house trespass and theft in Kharkhaunda area of Sonipat.
Nanhe, son of Mangal Singh, an erstwhile member of the Hawa Singh Bawaria gang, was brought into crime world by his brothers Lalla and Chanda, who were active dacoits in Greater Noida area between 1994 and 2003.
This is the fifth arrest of a Bawaria by the STF since September 2015 when the force started pacing up its search for the gang members.According to the STF, three of his brothers including Gulab Singh, Chanda and Navratan, had cases registered against them, were gangsters. His brother Gulab Singh was arrested on 21st May this year while Lalla’s charred body was recovered 15 years ago from Noida.
Raj Kumar Mishra, DSP STF Noida told TOI that Nanhe started operating from 1994. “In 2003, he had committed a dacoity along with Chanda and his other accomplices at the house of a milk trader in Kasna area and beat a woman to death as they took the family members hostage and beat them up. 50 grams of gold and 100 grams of silver was been recovered from them,” he said.
After this incident, SSP Gautam Budh Nagar announced a reward of Rs. 5000 on his head. He went absconding with his family and moved to Rajasthan. He also travelled to Haryana, Haridwar and stayed there for different periods of time. During this time, his father spread a rumour of his death and also organised the “terahvi” ceremony (13th day of death) of his son, in his village Puvari in Greater Noida.
Mishra said that while his time in Sonipat, he came into contact with Vinod Bawaria and his father Chandrabhan Bawaria and formed a gang with them and started committing dacoities.
