Colin Firth May Join the Cast of Mary Poppins Returns

Colin Firth (GalleyCat)Colin Firth may take on a role in the Mary Poppins Returns film adaptation. If he signs on, he will play William Weatherall Wilkins; this character serves as president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.

Here’s more from The Telegraph: “The new film will be directed by Rob Marshall, whose most recent film was the acclaimed Stephen Sondheim musical adaptation Into The Woods, and will be set in Depression-era London. Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw will play grown-up versions of Jane and Michael, and the film will also feature three of Michael’s children.”

The Guardian reports that other members of the cast includes Emily Blunt as the titular protagonist, Lin Manuel-Miranda as a lamplighter named Jack, and Meryl Streep as Mary Poppins’ cousin TopsyDavid Magee, the screenwriter, drew inspiration for the script from the stories of P.L. Travers’ beloved children’s books series. The theatrical release date has been set for December 25, 2018. (via The A.V. Club)
