Firefighters in Montreal and Laval were busy late Monday night tackling two blazes.

At 9:30 p.m., some 40 residents of an apartment building at the corner of Marie-Anne and de la Roche Sts. were forced out of their homes in Plateau-Mont-Royal as flames broke out.

It seems the fire was started by a man in his 70s who was having hallucinations. It seems he thought he could stop the visions by starting the fire.

No one was injured. The man could face possible criminal charges, but is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Two hours later, a fire broke out in a home under construction on Ste-Rose Blvd. in Laval.

The intensity of the flames caused burns to a firefighter’s face.

The fire grew and overtook a second home. Both are a total loss. A third home was damaged by water.

The cause of that fire has not yet been determined.
