DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — The Syrian army has established control over several districts of the western country's province of Hama, a military source told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Syria's servicemen have killed several militants from the Jund al-Aqsa terrorist group within the framework of the military operations in the province, the source said.
The source added that the government forces had also defused a number of explosive devices and confiscated a lot of weapons.
As part of the so-called Arab Spring, protests in Syria that took place in 2011 resulted in clashes between the government forces and opposition. Since then the Middle Eastern country has been mired in a war, which involves Damascus, numerous opposition fractions, as well as terrorist groups, including the Jund al-Aqsa and the Islamic State, prohibited in many countries including Russia.
