Former Eastenders star Kierston Wareing has been forced to undergo extensive dental work to rectify damage caused by an addiction to cola.

The actress, who played Kirsty Branning in the soap, admitted she drank up to two litres of cola each day for 15 years, often downing a can before she even got out of bed in the mornings.

Wareing had to have five rotten teeth removed earlier this year as a result of the unhealthy habit and said she regrets ignoring the warnings of her dentists down through the years.

Speaking to The Mirror, Wareing said: “I was on two and a half litres of Coca-Cola a day but my teeth have been suffering. I had a warning a year ago but I didn’t take it seriously.

“A year later and I have had five teeth come out. It’s been so painful. I’ve been waking up in agony and it’s all down to Coca-Cola. I had an addiction to it.

“I would wake up in the middle of the night and I would crave a can of coke. Then I would get up in the morning and the first thing I would drink was a can of Coke. I’ve brought this all on myself,” she said.

Despite curbing the habit, Wareing has not exactly kicked her addiction to sugar, and has replaced her fix with Wispa bars.

“I have four Wispa bars a day now. They said ‘You’re not addicted to Coke, you’re addicted to sugar’,” she said.

A Coca-Cola spokesperson said: “The key to good dental health is to brush your teeth regularly. All food and drink that contains sugar and is acidic, including soft drinks, should be enjoyed in moderation.”
