RAJKOT: Surendranagar superintendent of police (SP), Deepak Meghani, has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) to all the police stations asking them take up all the land-related complaints of dalits on priority and complete the investigation in time-bound manner without any partiality.
"It has come to our notice that other issues have cropped up in the district due to land-related complaints.
In order to resolve these issues and ensure speedy justice of their complaints, every police station will have to maintain a separate register of land-related complaints of dalits," a circular issued by the SP office stated. The SOP mentioned that the investigation into dalits' complaints regarding land should be done by the police station in-charge and probe should not be given to anyone.
"If you require any documentary evidence from other government departments for investigation, you must mention in your correspondence with other departments about the dalits' application and ask them to provide details in stipulated time. Applicants should be informed immediately once the case is disposed of," it added. Talking to TOI, Meghani said, "It is expected that the police investigates such complaints within 15 days after receiving the application. I will personally take the progress report of each application every week from the concerned police station."
"By doing this, we want to address the issues before it gets bigger and create other problems in the district," Meghani added.
