RAIPUR: A Naxal couple, disappointed with the 'empty' Maoist ideology, surrendered before intelligence wing of
Chhattisgarh Police on Monday, police said.
The duo were identified as Berta
Bheema alias
Bhimaal and his wife Sito alias
Jamli, natives of Bijapur district.
They turned themselves in at Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) headquarters, additional superintendent of police (SIB) Lal Umed Singh told
PTI.
While Bheema was active as deputy commander of military platoon 2 in the National Park Area committee of Maoists, Sito was working as section deputy commander in the same wing, he said.
After getting associated with the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in 2005 as a member of Bhairamgarh (Bijapur) local organisation squad, Bheema worked in different capacities with the banned outfit.
He was instrumental in executing several deadly attacks on security forces in the region, the ASP said.
According to the officer, he was allegedly involved in the 2010 attack in Dhaudai area of Narayanpur district in wherein 26 police personnel were killed.
He also admitted to his involvement in the 2008 Maoist ambush in
Badgaon area of Kanker district that claimed the life of a policeman.
Similarly, Sito was an important cadre of the wing as she was providing medical treatment to injured Maoist cadres, Singh said.
"In their statements, they said they decided to quit the movement due to harsh forest life and 'empty' ideology of Naxals," the ASP said.
Moreover, they have disclosed crucial details regarding the Maoist outfits active in the National Park Area and Bijapur, which would certainly help in counter-insurgency operations in the region, he said.
