AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court on Monday refused to grant temporary bail to suspended Gujarat BJP leader and trustee of Parul University, Jayesh Patel, (66), who is jailed on charges of sexual assault on a student.
Patel had sought 30-day bail to undergo angiography, but the HC said that the procedure takes one day only and there is no need to release him from judicial custody for this purpose.

Earlier also, Patel had unsuccessfully requested the high court to grant him bail for 30 days so that he could take treatment for cardiac ailment at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. In his present application, the accused submitted that the police has filed a chargesheet against him and there is no possibility that he could tamper with the evidence.
After Patel's arrest, a PIL was filed demanding magisterial inquiry into the allegations levelled by the students.
