Congress holds itself back from attacking Samajwadi Party

“We are waiting and watching the movements within the Samajwadi Party,” said Satya Dev Tripathi, chairman of the the Congress communication department. He said all he can add to that is that the developments are affecting the functioning of the government.

“Rather than targeting the Yadav family, we are focusing on targeting Amar Singh or BJP trying to create a rift for their personal benefits. We have been asked to go soft on the SP,” said a Congress spokesperson in the state.

Chief ministerial candidate Sheila Dikshit too said the feud is “impacting the administration”. “It is a family affair,” she said. Asked about the possibility of a split, she said, “We haven’t yet discussed it… The situation is still evolving. How it will end nobody knows.”

During his recent yatra, Rahul Gandhi mostly attacked the BJP. Even when he targeted the SP, he was soft on the SP. Rahul had referred to Akhilesh Yadav as “theek ladka”, with Akhilesh repaying the compliment later by calling Rahul an “achche insaan” and “achha ladka”.

Asked about Rahul’s “good boy” certificate to Akhilesh, Congress spokesperson R P N Singh said, “He never said he is a good chief minister, did he? It does not mean that if you are a good guy, you have to be good in everything.
