What happens when your parents — whose life was all about you till now – bring a baby home? Now complicate this scenario further with the assumption that the baby has a fully developed adult personality and speaks like Alec Baldwin?
That, in a nutshell, is The Baby Boss. Based on a bestselling picture book, the film is narrated by Tim (Tobey Maguire). He is unsettled by his parents introducing an attention hogging baby to his perfect life but the shock is nothing as compared to what is to come – this tot can talk. And when he starts speaking, he sounds a lot like Alec Baldwin’s Glengarry Glenn Ross character with his ‘coffee is for closers’ speech.
The trailer plays on the understandable fear and trepidation every child experiences over the new arrival and then multiplies it exponentially. Tim finds his new brother is on a secret mission – to stop the evil plans of a man who is about to introduce the cutest puppy breed ever and sap the supply of love in the world. To compete with a baby or to compete with a cute puppy? No brainer really. Tim makes his choice and gets a brother for life.
But will this be the DreamWorks’ film which will rise beyond ‘just alright’ to achieve the heights of a Kung Fu Panda or How to Train Your Dragon? Find your answer in a theatre near you in March 2017.
