Nagpur: Even as police have rounded up second suspect allegedly involved in the murder of MCOCA accused Amit Ambade, the role of a crime branch constable has come under scanner who had sold his car to the main accused. The police have already nabbed murder mastermind Shrikant Guhe.
The cop in question had sold his four-wheeler to Guhe, who had been booked for dealing in contraband substances, around a week before the murder.
The accused had used the car to trail Ambade while he was returning home from his eatery and to flee after the murder.
Meanwhile, Guhe was presented before the court on Monday. The court has remanded Guhe to police custody till October 29. Ajni police have now rounded up Vicky Saneshwar. The other assailants, Nilesh Mandaskar and Azhar Habib Shaikh, are yet to be nabbed.
Police said the car, in which the assailants had arrived at the spot where they stabbed Ambade, could be spotted in the CCTV footage too. In fact, the car’s registration number (MH31BB 6005) had helped the cops zero in on the mastermind Guhe.
The central government website for identification of registration numbers shows a woman, a relative of the cop in question, as the owner of the car.
Senior PI Sandipan Pawar of Ajni police station said the concerned cop would be quizzed soon. “We would be recording his statement,’ said Pawar.
