13 injured in NJ Transit bus crash in Newark: Police

Thirteen people were injured early Monday morning after a car collided with a New Jersey Transit bus in Newark, authorities said.

Of the 29 passengers on the bus, 11 sustained minor injuries and two people in the car were seriously hurt, NJ.com reported.

Just before 5 a.m., a 1996 Honda Accord turned in front of the busas it traveled eastbound on West Market Street. The bus was headed for Newark’s Penn Station from Montclair on the 34 line, according toABC7.

The Honda’s driver, a 19-year-old Orange man, was issued summonses for careless driving, failure to wear a seatbeit, failure to exhibit registration and for being an unlicensed drive, police told ABC7. The vehicle’s owner was ticketed for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate the vehicle.

NJ Transit has dealt with a series of tragedies in the last two months. In late September, one of its commuter trains crashed into the Hoboken Terminal, killing a mother and inuring more than 100 other people. And in August, two NJ Transit buses collided in an accident that killed a driver and a passenger.
