AMU alumnus Naseeruddin Shah gets Yash Bharti Samman
AGRA: Noted film personality and an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University, Naseeruddin Shah has been selected for the prestigious Yash Bharti Samman, for the year 2016-17, for his contributions and achievements in the field of film acting. Shah is also the younger brother of the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday announced the names of 54 eminent personalities who have been selected for the award in recognition of their contributions in their respective field.
Naseeruddin Shah was born on 20th July 1950. At the age of 5 years he was sent to St Joseph's School in Nainital with his elder brother Zameer Uddin Shah who was 7 years old at that time. After completing his school, Naseer joined Aligarh Muslim University and received graduation degree in 1971.
Following his natural urges, young Naseer, who was a member of the editorial board of University Magazine (English) in the session 1967-68, started taking interest in cultural activities and became an active member of AMU Drama Club. Later, he joined National School of Drama and made acting as his career. AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has congratulated Naseeruddin Shah for this great achievement. He said that Shah’s success record is a matter of pride for the AMU community and something to be emulated by the University students. Lieutenant General, Anil Chat of Mainpuri and saved life of millions in Uttarakhand tragedy also been selected for Yash Bharti award among 54 eminent persons.
