A spokesperson for the Spanish multinational textile company Inditex on Monday denied claims that Syrian refugees, including children and those without necessary work permits, work in factories belonging to its suppliers in Turkey.

"Irregular Syrian refugees are not working for our providers and neither are children," the company told Spanish national TV network RTVE.

"When we discover that there are refugees in the production line we help them to regularize their situation there though the help of the local charity Refugee Support Center," said a company spokesperson.

Inditex was founded by Amancio Ortega, the richest man in Europe and the second richest man in the world according to Forbes Magazine and is behind high street brands such as Zara, Massimo Duty and Pull and Bear.

It was forced to make the declarations following a report on the BBC investigative program Panorama, due to be broadcast on Monday night.

"We audit all of our factories and carry out inspections throughout the year. When we find a problem, we impose a plan of correction and the provider has six months to implement it," the spokesman added. Enditem
