Opposition bandh evokes mixed response in J'khand

Ranchi, Oct 24 (UNI) The statewide bandh called by the opposition parties against the recent police firing incidents in Jharkhand and against the government decision to make changes in the CNT and SPT acts drew a mixed response.
Several leaders of the Opposition, including former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi, former union minister Subodhkant Sahai, state JD (U) president Jaleshwar Mahto, former Hazaribagh MP and CPI leader Bhuneshwar Mehta, former cabinet ministers Banna Gupta, Suresh Paswan alongwith Arup Chatterjee of the MCC were arrested by the police from different areas.
Apart from them hundreds of party workers of various parties were arrested and in some areas taken into custody. In Ranchi at the Albert Ekka Chowk Babulal Marandi and Subodh Kant Sahai were arrested by the police. The roads in the state capital wore a deserted look and despite the call of the chamber of federation of opening the shops, the shop keepers preferred to keep them shut.
