NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the entire country celebrated the Army's surgical strikes along the Line of Control (LoC) as 'Chhoti Diwali'.
Addressing a rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, the Prime Minister said, "We celebrated 'Chhoti Diwali' on September 29".
The Army had conducted surgical strikes along the Line of Control on September 29 to eliminate terror launch pads in the PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir).

When our Army showed valour across the border, the whole of Varanasi erupted with joy. I thank you for that," PM Modi added.
"As your MP, I feel proud of the manner in which you paid tributes to valour of armed forces and expressed your support to them," he said.
The Prime Minister said that the nation has been able to convey to the armed forces that the entire country of 125 crore people is behind them.
On Saturday, PM Modi had made an impassioned appeal to people, asking them to send Diwali wishes to the jawans. "We must convey that we are proud of them every minute of the day," he said.

"We will send a message to our security forces this Diwali as they fight for us day and night," PM Modi added.
This was Modi's second political rally on Monday. Earlier in the day, the PM addressed a Maha Parivartan Rally in Mahoba. The state goes to polls next year, most likely in Februray or March. The BJP, which had swept the Lok Sabha elections more than two years ago, winning 71 of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, is seeking to make a comeback by wresting power after 15 years from the ruling SP. Bundelkhand region has 19 Assembly constituencies.
