The Socialist Youth Union affiliated to the JVP today filed a complaint against Minister Sajith Premadasa with the Bribery Commission against a recently leaked video clip which purportedly showing him recommending jobs to a group of youth.
National Organiser of the SYU Comrade Eranga Gunasekera said they hoped the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (BC) would soon start investigations into the complaint.
Speaking to the media while leaving from the Commission premises, Gunasekera said that the Minister had played with tears of the unemployed people, which are around 3.5 million in Sri Lanka, for his personal political agenda.
“The Housing and Constructions Ministry belongs to the government and it is not his private property to give jobs to whoever he wants, based on certain selective methods,” he said.
He also said even though the political appointment were not something new and strange to the Sri Lankan society, this kind of strong evidence had not been publicised earlier. (Piyumi Fonseka)

Very fair complain! Hope the relevant authorities will take appropriate actions and apply the relevant law fair and square. I'm sure many supporters of Mr. Sajith would bring that what he did was something every party is doing when in power, but people voted for Yahapalana to put a full stop for such unethical and perhaps illegal activities. Well done!

Do not worry , Good governess will not do anything to Sajith as they have been protecting all corrupted people through out. Sajith should resign and make public apology for this incident.

Even religious dignitaries and uni professors recommend people for jobs. In fact in application forms of most organisations there is a requirement for a recommendation from a high profile eminent person. So they also will have to stop recommending in future.

If the President thinks it is nothing wrong for a Minister to give a job for his daughter, what would he have to say about this????

JVP is worried because HTota is their stronghold and Sajith is cutting into their enemployed voter base. High Priests, Bishops and religious dignitaries and top acedemics recommend young persons. They also should be charged, Sajith did not give govt jobs or vehicles like some Ministers.

If he has any shame left, he should be resigned immediately.

Jobs should be granted on merit and through impartial Interviews. This method is applied in most of top quality Private sector Companies. They normaly ask two non-related referees when applied for a job. Any kind of canvessing will be a disqualification. via DM Android App

Recommending and bribery are two different things. I never saw the Minister accepting any money. Appointments are given by the relevant authority and not by any minister although minister may recommend. If unsuitable persons had been recruited, then the relevant authority becomes responsible.

Have you really watched that video? He clearly said he was filling his ministry same as other ministers do. no point of defending him.

RECOMMENDING PEOPLE FOR JOBS IS DEFINITELY NOT AN OFFENCE.ARE ALL THOSE RECOMMENDING PEOPLE FOR JOBS GOING TO BE CHARGED FOR BRIBERY?

Minister's turn hard working Sri Lankans into beggars. Instead of creating industry for people to find jobs by themselves, they have to go begging after ministers who give them jobs that drain the economy.

I wonder why JVP did not go to commsion 225 times as it is well known every mp give jobs to supporters.

I thought Saith could lead the country one day.But not after seeing that video. Telling lies to the voters about good governance and doing the exact opposite. Hypocrite.
