Guess why RAMSAY does not eat when flying?
My real home is 30,000 foot in the air. No, kidding. London is my home. That's where my kids are. Emirates (airlines) has made it so easy. Their flights are a dream. Service is incredible, food is incredible. I don't eat on aeroplanes, but the food is amazing. It didn't realise it's been 10 years since I have stopped eating on planes. I know what happens to food on planes - all the sense of excitement and taste. I generally eat before I board the plane so I can relax. Also, I don't like that feeling of eating in the plane and having nowhere to go. So, we (chefs) graze all day long, we don't sit down for the starters or main course. We just don't do that, so if I have dinner with my family, I will share a starter because I will be done by the main course. We don't have big appetites. It's very hard for me to enjoy a full meal because I'm tasting every 2 minutes in kitchen. So the worse thing we can do is eat on a plane. It makes you feel lethargic and I need to feel energised all the time.
'Never trust a fat chef'
The role of the chef today is so much more prolific than it was 20 years ago. All that bull**** about 'Never trust a skinny chef,' I say Never trust a fat b******. He will eat all the best bits. The skinny chef is saving all the best bits for you. It's not a good advert for a chef who weighs 450 pounds with three chins. Does that make you want to eat his food? Not me.
Worst thing I ever ate
I eat a lot of s***. The s****est thing that I ever ate was when I was auditioning for Masterchef US. This girl was all excited for the macaroni and cheese that she made from her mum's recipe. I found it very sweet and I asked her what she put in there. (We can't write about Ramsay's shocking explanation here)
my daughters are nightmares
I am too old for Snapchat. I am **** scared of these new technologies. I have three daughters Matilda, Holly and Megan. They are nightmares, they have set up my Snapchat account, but I don't get that. I am active on Instagram, facebook live and twitter.
Gordon went to India to learn Indian cooking and won a pressure cooker... Here's what he did with it
Cooking amongst the housewives, I learnt so much from them than they learnt from me. That pressure cooker is in my trophy cabinet, I have Michelin stars, presentation plates, and that pressure cooker is reminiscent of my incredible time in India. It is one of my happiest memories of cooking.
When Gordon got kicked out of his daughters school
Schools are extremely stiff today and I think they need to relax a bit more. I just wanted break the ice and also have little big of fun with it. I just asked the headmistress for a selfie and I got kicked out. I posted that picture on social media to millions of my followers. They also refrained me from attending parent - teacher meetings. My daughter was upset with me for a long time.
We have good days. You watch too much television. These guys are real experts and we work endlessly. They are perfectionist and they have been doing it for seven years and they know what they are doing. So it's important for them as well to have that consistency. I have my dramatic days. Everyone gets a little confused with what we do on TV and the muppets that I have to work with on TV and they ask me to fix their (*expletive*), they will be closed anyways. Here is an amazing restaurant, not a ****hole. You won't find Stuart Little in there and you won't find a dog standing in the fridge. So, we work in completely different pace. They are experts.
We bumped into the lovely 66-year-old Preta who flew all the way from Denmark to Dubai after learning that Gordon Ramsay was coming to town to celebrate the first anniversary of Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. Gordon met the entire family and told City Times that he was happy to see young faces in the family who also follow his show. "We are seven members of the family and we came here to join Gordon in his celebration. He didn't know anything about it. He asked us about food and he wanted to know exactly where in Denmark we come from. But I am his biggest fan in the family. I took so many pictures with him. This is a special memory. My heart and my soul will always be in Dubai even if I never come back here," Preta said.
Depends. I am back in January after the holidays. Not a big fan of summer because it is super hot here. It's so hard to do anything,, but it does not stop people from coming. As you can see, my restaurant is still busy. From the European sector, especially London, it's an amazing break from my shift to come over here. They have got the environment and the culture that I need to understand very quickly. Plus the sun and the chance to relax a little bit.
