SURAT: Commuters were relieved to find there was no major traffic jam on Sardar Bridge over Narmada river between Ankleshwar and Bharuch on National Highway (NH)-8 on Sunday. The Golden Bridge was closed for three hours in the morning in view of President's visit to the industrial town of Ankleshwar, and a major traffic jam on Sardar Bridge was feared.
Traffic from both directions moved slowly on Sardar Bridge and it took commuters 20 minutes to cross the area despite there being no jam.
The reason was comparatively less traffic on NH-8 as people bound for Saurashtra and Ahmedabad during vacation had already left for their respective destinations.
Bharuch district superintendent of police Sandip Singh said, "We ensured a better traffic management system for the stretch this time." tnn
