ALLAHABAD:
Doctors warn locals against the different type of
allergies they can contract due to continued exposure to the chemicals released by crackers.
Most firecrackers release various kinds of fatal chemicals after being burnt and one of the most common pollutant to be released is nitrogen oxide. "Nitrogen oxide triggers skin irritation, eye problems and respiratory problems and children and geriatrics are prone to such allergies.
Besides, sulphur dioxide is another pollutant that is emitted by crackers and it has a detrimental affect on the lungs and causes shortness of breath." said a city-based doctor.
Doctors also claim that firecrackers could be hazardous and risky for sensitive body parts including the skin, ears and eyes. "If you are bursting crackers, you must cover your body and wear clothes with full-sleeves" said, city-based skin specialist, Dr
Shakti Basu.
Additional CMO, Dr
Anil Kumar said, "Harmful smoke emitted by crackers generally aggravate asthma, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis and other respiratory problems. Revellers prone to respiratory allergies should refrain from bursting crackers." The presence of high levels of suspended particulate matter (SPM) that emanate from firecrackers, leads to health complications.
