DOHA: Prisoners taking vocational training in Qatari jail will get diploma certificates from the Qatar Technical School.
The inmates will be given incentives to encourage them to participate in the courses, said Brigadier Mohamad Abdullah Al Ahmad, Assistant Director of the Director of Punitive and Reforms Institutions (DPRI) at the Ministry of Interior.
He was speaking at a ceremony held to renew a contract between the DPRI and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) to operate the centre for rehabilitating inmates at DPRI.
The programme Imdad-II, aimed at providing vocational training to inmates, is financed by the social and sport activities fund.
Qatar Technical School is cooperating in holding training sessions, Qatar News Agency reports.
The first agreement made remarkable achievements. A large number of inmates benefited from the courses, said Ahamd.
Families of the inmates were also provided financial support to ease their lives. The programme aims to enable prisoners to earn their livelihood so that they do not go back to crimes after release.
The first version Imdad-I that began in June, 2012 organized 20 vocational training courses for inmates of DPRI, said Fahad Mohamad Saad Al Naimi, CEO of QRCS.
