MARGAO: There is stiff opposition emerging against the ruling BJP government, especially against their legislators along the mining belt, with the newly-constituted Sanvordem Progressive Front (SGF), comprising sarpanchas and panch members, vowing to oppose their Sanvordem MLA, Ganesh Gaonkar, for ‘neglecting’ his constituency.
Interestingly, five sarpanchas and many panch members of the seven panchayats in the Sanvordem constituency have joined forces to oust the present first-time BJP legislator, Gaonkar, who they claim had failed to fulfill his assurances of development in their constituency.

SGF stated that the Sanvordem MLA had also disappointed them when they sought his support regarding a hike in the transportation rates of mining ore. The members said they will choose, from amongst themselves, a worthy opponent to challenge Gaonkar at the 2017 polls.
The SGF comprises members hailing from the rural villages of Dabal, Dharbandora, Kalay, Collem and Sancordem, all belonging to the Sanvordem constituency.
When contacted, MLA Gaonkar refuted the allegations made against him and compared the SGF to “mushrooms sprouting before the polls and vanishing later.”
