Ahsan Asgar, 23, from Poonch district was on the top of the world when he recently received an email from Himanshu Sharma, Talent Head, Indian Idol 7, that he had been selected for the singing show.

A resident of border Palera village in Mandi tehsil, Ahsan had auditioned for the show on September 17 at MIER College in Jammu.

“I am thankful to the Indian Idol audition team for selecting me as a contestant,” said Ahsan.

“Initially, I had sent them three video clips in which I was singing and I received a message from the Indian Idol team to take part in the audition on September 17 at MIER College,” he said.

“In the audition, I was asked to sing three songs and I sung ‘tore bina mohe chain na aawe’, ‘phir mohabat karne chala’ and ‘naina thag lenge’. The judges appreciated my singing and asked to me to sing two more songs of their choice like ‘chingari koi badke’ and ‘sakia sakia’,” he said.

“The judges encouraged me and asked me to work hard for future. At that time I was not sure I would make it, but I am highly thankful to the show for providing me a chance,” the Poonch youth said.

Ahsan has a bachelor’s degree in physical education and has been participating in various talent hunt shows, including ‘Choona Hai Aasmaan’, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. This year, he was among the finalists on the show.

He gives credit to Afrooz haider, Liyaqat Jaffri and Sajjad Sheikh, noted poets of Jammu and Kashmir, and Shanker Sharma, famous musician from Poonch district, for their encouragement.

“I am practising harder to do better in the contest,” Ahsan said.

Relatives and friends have been visiting Ahsan in Poonch to congratulate him.
