Rawat lays foundation stone for overhead tanks in Rudrapur

Chief minister Harish Rawat has laid the foundation stone for two overhead water tanks on Sunday that will solve the drinking water woes of city’s densely populated Rampura and Transit Camp. The state government has earmarked Rs 10 crore for the project.

RUDRAPUR: Chief minister Harish Rawat has laid the foundation stone for two overhead water tanks on Sunday that will solve the drinking water woes of city’s densely populated Rampura and Transit Camp. The state government has earmarked Rs 10 crore for the project.
Rawat also inaugurated a power sub-station that will come up in nearby Jafarpur village at a cost of Rs 43 crore.

Nearly 50,000 residents of Rampura and almost 1 lakh people of Transit Camp, who had been complaining against supply of impure drinking water. In January 2014, the then CM Vijay Bahuguna during a visit to Rudrapur had announced construction of two overhead water tanks in the areas. But the plan was stalled after change in leadership.
The tank at Transit Camp will have a storage capacity of 1,200 kilolitres, while the one at Rampura will hold 1,600 kilolitres. The tanks are expected to be ready by 2017.
The CM also announced a mini sports stadium in Transit Camp and sanctioned Rs 21 lakh for the same. Rawat also announced construction of Shivnagar-Transit Camp road and an inter college in the region which at present has only a single junior high school to cater to a population of one lakh.
On the occasion, Rajya Sabha member Raj Babbar also sanctioned Rs three lakh from his MP fund for renovation of Kali Temple in Rampura.
