CHANDIGARH: The earthy feel of artifacts, handicraft, home décor items, etc from West Bengal, on display at the States of India Pavilion at CII’s Chandigarh Fair 2016 on at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh, is getting a tremendous response visitors. Chandigarh Fair 2016 is on till Monday at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Visitors are also succumbing to the rustic appeal of marble artifacts, jewelry, blue pottery, and food items from Rajasthan.
The West Bengal pavilion offers something for everyone at the Chandigarh Fair 2016.
Be it hand-painted t-shirts with spiritual motifs of Lord Budha and Krishna or Kantha embroidered stoles, scarves and sarees.
“Youngsters are loving the hand-painted kurtis and t-shirts at the Fair and we have sold all our unstitched kurtis and we are already out-of-stock,” said an artisan. T-shirts are priced between Rs 550 and Rs 700 while kurtis are priced between Rs 650 and Rs 900.
West Bengal State Export Promotion Society is showcasing wooden carvings and sculptures, utensils, artificial flowers, decorative showpieces, jute bags, crystal necklaces, cotton Kantha suits, hand-made soft toys, hand-stitched embroidered sarees, etc.
Ornaments made of Dokra are the most hot-selling products at the West Bengal stalls. Dokra is an ancient form of metallurgy and the ornaments are made after melting metal.
Special hand-stitched suits and sarees, priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 are most sought-after. It takes artisans one year to complete one suit. Artisans have brought a variety of sola, palm and cane flower sticks and jute and Cotton flower swings, which are being especially liked by children.

Rustic appeal of Rajasthan is also a major attraction at the Chandigarh Fair 2016. On display are an exquisite range of ancient art of blue pottery from Jaipur which is hand-made and is world-famous for its color and brightness. Priced between Rs 50 and Rs 600, these artisans are showcasing a wide range of Diyas, lanterns, wall hangings, bathroom sets, and a range of decorative items. Ranging between a nominal price of Rs 250 to 300, these lanterns and diyas are must buy for Diwali.
Art and handicrafts from Rajasthan with some very artistic aarti thalis, besides beautiful ear rings, cutlery, pen-stands, marble statues, salt and pepper dispensers are another highlight.
Pickles, papads and some sweets and savory items like a variety of gachak, revaris and mongra are tempting the taste buds of visitors at the Fair. Many other items like waterproof doormats; Jaipuri jutti are also a hit.
