Pablo Carreno Busta secured his second title of the season when he rallied for a three-set win over Fabio Fognini in the final of the Kremlin Cup.

The Spaniard dropped the first set to veteran opponent Fognini, but regained his composure and eventually sealed the title 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Carreno Busta has enjoyed a breakthrough season on the ATP Tour and won his first tournament in August when he beat Roberto Bautista in the final of the Winston-Salem Open.

The sixth seed needed treatment on an ankle injury midway through the second set but that break seemed to settle him down as his play improved significantly afterwards.

Fognini had beaten seeds Paolo Lorenzi, Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Philipp Kohlschreiber on his way to the final but could not force a fourth successive victory as his finals record dropped to 4-8.

"The title that I won first (at Winston-Salem) is very special for me because it was the first," Carreno Busta said.

"But the Moscow title is also precious. I've dropped a set in both of my finals but came back to win the match and the tournament on both occasions.

"Fabio sometimes loses his focus in the match. I knew that and I forced myself to continue fighting. Sometimes he's pretty unbelievable but sometimes he plays below par.

"I tried to play my normal tennis, to focus on my own performance and everything worked well."
