Country singer Kelsea Ballerini expressed gratitude to her fans for their support after the death of her grandfather on October 19. He died the same day that she was given the Breakout Artist award at the taping of the annual CMT Artists of the Year special.
"My granddad passed away this afternoon," Ballerini said at the end of her acceptance speech. "So this is for you."
The singer shared a photo of her as a young child with her grandfather on Instagram. She wrote that "It was an emotional day yesterday losing my grandpa, but an honor to stand on stage with his last name and do what I love knowing he had the best seat in the house."
Ballerini has a number of upcoming shows in the U.S. in November, including stops in Chicago, Washington D.C., Knoxville and Atlanta.
