CHANDIGARH: CII Chandigarh Fair 2016 , a platform known for shopping and buying various products from different parts of the country and abroad, ahead of the festive season heralded by Diwali. The fair is a major draw here with a large number of shopping-loving Punjabis visiting the fair. This year, took a step towards initiating cautiousness regarding health and health-related issues, amongst the people of Tricity.

Often, ignorance towards health related issues can have disastrous consequences; thus, to raise awareness about this issue, Ministry of Ayush, Government India launched an initiative to provide free health checkups to the visitors at this year's CII Chandigarh Fair 2016, at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
"We have four camps offering free health check-ups, like, blood Sugar, blood pressure, allergy, etc. More than 600 people came for checkups at our camps near the international pavilion. This initiative has been on for the last few years, and we even have our counselors to guide the patients for their benefit, and also distributing free medicines to them. The team of doctors and volunteers are working hard to involve and influence the masses to go for regular health checkups", said Dr Azhar, CCRUM, Delhi.
Apart from the CII Chandigarh Fair 2016, AYUSH regularly sets up such camps at various locations across Delhi, for the betterment of the people, he added.
"Camps encouraging people to try alternative medicines of naturopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy, Unani and to adopt yoga are being demonstrated at the Fair. We are running free health checkup camps as well. We are giving away free medicine, literature and live demonstration of Yoga also to apprise people about the benefits of alternate medicine, Says Dr Murli Krishna, Officer with the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Deep Ayurveda Company has brought herbal tea which is good for the heart as well as herbal tonics for a healthy liver, which is selling like hot cakes at the Fair.
As visitors flocked the venue, CII Regional Director, Babu Khansaid, "We anticipated a good response from city residents as the fair is practically exhibiting every possible product. The fair also provides a platform for meaningful interaction with corporate, consumers and small-scale industries."
