Farmers groaning under TRS misrule: Prof. Kodandaram

Alleging that the farmers were facing insults under TRS rule, Telangana Political JAC Chairman Prof. M Kodandaram has warned the State government that no government had survived while doing injustice to the farmers’ community.

Prof. Kodandaram observed a one-day Rythu Deeksha at Indira Park here on Sunday alleging that the TRS government left the problems of the farmers to the wind. Speaking on the occasion, Kodandaram stated that 60 percent of the people leading their lives depending upon agriculture. The agriculture sector was the main pillar of State economy. The business will run only when agriculture sector was good, he said.

Demanding that the State government bring Comprehensive Agriculture Policy, Seed Act and Farmers’ Income Security Act, Kodandaram asked the State government to provide social security to the farmers. He also demanded that the government refrain from acquiring lands indiscriminately and made it clear that the government has to give land to land to the farmers when land was acquired from the farmers. It was unwise to think that the companies will come to the State only if lands were given to them, Kodandaram said and demanded that the State government create Agriculture Fund’.

Prof. Kodandaram made it clear that he staged a Rythu Deeksha only to mount pressure on the government to solve the problems of the farmers. He asked the government to waive off the loans of the farmers and control the flow of the spurious seeds in the market. He said that the government made every farmer in the State to bear the burden of debt of Rs.93,000 with its policies though the farmers didn’t receive any benefit from it.

Finding fault with the TRS government for stating that it was implementing several schemes to the welfare of the government, Justice Chandra Kumar has alleged that in practice nothing has happened.

Several Rythu Unions leaders, Prof. Haragopal, Prof. Rama Melkote, former MLCs Chukka Ramaiah, Prof. Nageshwar, Justice Chandra Kumar, senior journalists Potturi Venkateswara Rao, Dr K Ramachandra Murhty, K Srinivas Reddy, former MLAs Gummadi Narsaiah,, Janardhan Reddy and several other leaders visited the Deeksha camp and extended their solidarity to Kodandaram’s Rythu Deeksha. Surprisingly, the State government deployed huge police force at Kodandaram’s deeksha place. (NSS)
