National junior-sub junior squash championship begins

Shubhang Mohta, Tanveer Singh Mundra of Madhya Pradesh and Saatvik Swarup from Delhi along with a number of other junior players from all parts of the country advanced into the third round of the Sub junior and Junior National Squash Championship.

INDORE: Shubhang Mohta, Tanveer Singh Mundra of Madhya Pradesh and Saatvik Swarup from Delhi along with a number of other junior players from all parts of the country advanced into the third round of the Sub junior and Junior National Squash Championship that began here at Daly College on Saturday.
Shubhang beat Subhash Choudhary of Rajasthan 3-2 after being defeated in the first set. He made a comeback in the second and third set outperforming his opponent by 11-5 and 11-9.
Where Shubhang had to endure a strong challenge before halting his opponent, in contrast another player from MP, Tanveer Singh Mundra was seen dominating the game in the both qualifying matches played in round 1 and 2 on Saturday.

Tanveer beat Priyaan Thakker from Maharashtra by 11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 11-13 and 11-2 in his first match. While he defeated Pranay from Delhi in the second round by 11-9,6-11,11-9,11-6.
Meanwhile more than 130 qualifying matches were played in the boys u-11, u-13, u-15, u-17 and u-19 age categories on the first day of the national championship. While the girls qualifying matches and round 3 along with the final qualifying matches in the boys category will be played on Sunday.
The qualified players will be battling it out with the top seeded squash players of the country in the pre-quarter and quarter finals to be played on Monday.

The top ranked players have already been advanced to the pre-quarter final round of the championship. Meanwhile a total of 757 players from all over the country have registered for the championship making it the highest ever participation in a national event at junior level.
