Piyush Bhatnagar aka Sound Avtar to perform at Wicked Weekends
This Jaipuri Bass music artist Piyush Bhatnagar aka Sound Avtar has been called the Key Bass Ambassador of the nation quite often. His tracks 'Scattered Light Tunnel', 'Cursed', 'Alarm Symphony' and 'Under the Light' have charted as high as Top 30 on the Beatport Glitch Hop & Dubstep Charts. Sound Avtar was recently commissioned to remix one of the tracks from a Bollywood Movie - Gangs of Wasseypur 2.
This time, Sound Avatar will be performing at Baleno Wicked Weekends where he will enthral the audience with unique bass music sounds.
What will you be playing at Wicked Weekends?
I never design or pre decide my set for any gigs. I think that makes an artist looks like a robot playing a pre-recorded set. I might play a really uptempo set or get into the deep bass vibe and keep it intimate. But it's all depends on the vibe and the audience i'm playing to.
Your music is truly one of a kind. What inspires your music? What does it represent as a genre ?
Well as we all know that Bass music has taken over the world like a storm, and in India it has grown rapidly over the last few years. It depends on person to person how bass music can represent one as individual. For me it helps me represent my inner aggression with a dramatic and big breakdowns.
When did you realize that you have an inclination towards music? How did this unique music genre come into being? What were the challenges?

It happened long years back when i was a regular resident DJ in my hometown and playing private gigs etc. My brother use to get me loads of CDS compilations with the artists like Talvin Singh, Midival Punditz, Tabla Beat Science who were ruling the Asian Underground scene that time. And internet was big help to explore more about bass music, its origin, artists etc. Soon,I started playing a lot of Asian Underground music and started digging deeper into different faces of bass music. Playing a total unconventional sounds in commercial club spaces back then wasn't so easy but slowly people started listening and supporting it.
You kickstarted your career with Rub-a-duck, a sub label of of Blackhole. That's a big deal. How did it work for you?
It was around latter half of 2011 when Black Hole Recordings announced their sub label called RUB A DUCK. While i came across this news I was already in a process of finishing two tracks. I decided to send those two tracks to them as demo thinking there was no harm trying, considering how big Black Hole Recordings is (Tiesto's Label). Surprisingly, they instantly replied in a spell of 5 hours saying they loved it and wanted to release. I later did a string of releases with them and I'm glad most of them charted in top 100 dubstep, glitch chop charts.
Your music has a global appeal. What makes it international? Which global artist inspires you and what's your future projects?
There are so many and hard to put all their names here, but Skrillex as been a big inspiration to me since his first EP came out and took the whole dubstep scene like a storm around the world. Talking of future projects, i have almost completed my next Ep which should be out really soon.
You are identified as the Key Bass Ambassador of the nation very often. What is your take on it?
I'm happy if that helps more young DJ's to get in to the bass scene and make a strong bass army in our own country. My goal has always been to play/produce what I really love and it always feels good to hear people appreciating and supporting it. I'm just a simple Rajasthani guy living out of my sandook in Mumbai.
How important is it that Media houses and brands are taking Indie music events to another level? Is it a progressive move? What does it mean for the indie music scene?
As we know that Indie music scene in India is growing but not as large as it should be as compared to other events. Having these big media houses and big brands investing into and helping the scene grow is indeed a progressive move. Wicked Weekends helps artists and everyone involved to enjoy the music scene.
