If you’re a budding journalist who wants to report for tabloid! from the front lines of Dubai International Film Festival, this is your chance.

Gulf News is teaming up with Diff for a third year in a row to bring you the Young Journalist Award (YJA); eight eligible writers will compete at the festival between December 7-14. One winner will secure a month-long internship with Gulf News.

Contestants will be given unprecedented access as they cover the festival.

“We want to use the festival to provide a platform for people working across all disciplines that contribute to the success of the film industry, and that includes journalism,” said Diff chairman Abdulhamid Juma.

“[The YJA] is not just an award but a week-long training programme for the finalists and we look forward to welcoming them all to contribute to the heartbeat of the Festival this year.”

Sayema Wasi won last year’s YJA and called the experience both “glamorous and eye-opening”.

“Being part of the Young Journalist Award competition during Diff 2015 opened so many doors for me that I hadn’t thought I could even knock on,” she said.

Candidates must be UAE nationals or residents, who are enrolled in university (any major) or are in their final year of high school. They must be available from December 7-14 to cover the festival, taking place at Madinat Jumeirah. Applicants must apply by emailing their resumes, a copy of a current passport/visa page and a review of the last film they watched to press@filmfest.ae by November 20.
