New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar along with many sporting personalities and Bollywood celebrities wished the Indian Kabaddi team for winning the World Cup for the third consecutive time.

India fought off a tough challenge from Iran to win the World Cup at the TransStadia Arena in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

They had earlier clinched the 2004 and 2007 editions of the Kabaddi World Cup.

In perhaps the most exciting match of this World Cup, the Indians overturned a first-half deficit with a superb second-half performance to win 38-29.

"Champions!! Invented the game and never lost the world cup! Such a proud moment for us! Hope it grows even more globally. #INDvIRN," Tendulkar wrote on the micro-blogging website Twitter handle on Sunday.

Sports Minister Vijay Goel expressed his delight at the achievement.

"And our tigers have done it. Victors. Congratulations @IamAnupK & team! #OneBigBlue," Goel said.

India batsman Suresh Raina wrote: "Congratulations #IndianKabaddiTeam for wonderful display of skills & winning eight World title."

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said, : India invented Kabaddi & r World Champs for 8th time.Elsewhere some country invented Cricket & r yet only good in correcting typos. #INDvIRN"

Former India batsman VVS Laxman said: "Congratulations Indian Kabaddi team for winning the #kabaddiworldcup2016 Gr8 team effort.. You made us proud. Keep it up."

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said: "Kabaddi kabaddi kabaddi. We are home. Congratulations India. Third title on the trot! Well done Anup, Ajay & the whole team. Champions!"

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan said it's "time for celebration and cheer" .

"The excitement of the hour, India wins world cup kabaddi 2016. Seen on television with the family by the side and surreptitiously moving in and out of the room to rid the ambiance of superstition," he posted on his official blog.

"We rule and it is not often that we do that, but when we do, it is time for celebration and cheer and Twitter and Facebook in praise of the efforts made, by team India, and cheering them on to win," he added

The 74-year-old remarked that there are some people on Twitter who thrive on criticising others.

"There are certain Twitter conscious twitterati that survive this platform simply by criticising or speaking controversially on the win, saying they invented darts and curling. They have been world champions for long but have never beaten their chests just like we do often, in the confines of various hotels," he posted.
