Nagpur: Six cadets of no. 4 NCC naval unit, Nagpur, were felicitated after they emerged champions in all-India camp at Maharashtra naval bungalow, Mangalwari. This year, the camp took place at Karwar in Karnataka between October 7 and 17. Over 25 cadets from Nagpur were selected from Maharashtra to compete with representatives of 16 other directorates throughout India.
Cadets Srushti Patre, Saurabh Shukla, Anand Kashyap, Rishabh Chaudhary, Jagjitsingh Kabotra and Mayur Savarkar were part of the team that won.
The cadets who underwent rigorous training were guided by captain Tushar Valunjkar and his staff for 60 days before they could enter the competition. They were judged on activities like boat pulling, firing and ship modelling besides a couple of written tests.
Performance of an individual as well as team coordination was the main deciding factor in the competition. “I got to learn what team effort can achieve which will give impetus to my career,” said Savarkar. Patre, who secured the first place in firing, said, “I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am very proud of what I was able to achieve.”
Joining NCC builds a person’s character and prepares for life’s toughest challenges. They get an opportunity to join the armed forces as well as preference in jobs in private sector, said commander of captain VS Rana of Nagpur NCC group. Public relations officer Wg Cdr Samir Gangakhedkar was proud of his cadets’ success and the camaraderie they showed in the competition.
“It shows how well coordinated they were. As individuals they are exceptional and as a team invincible,” he said.
