NAGPUR: Two bogus
cops, in their 30s, duped three persons, including a senior citizen, within a span of two hours on Saturday. The impostors decamped with cash and valuables worth 1.85 lakh. The accused were also captured in CCTV footage in the third incident.
The two accused intercepted 60-year-old
Dilip Thiwre, a resident of Pande layout, near Khamla Square at 9:30am.
They posed as crime branch personnel and even presented forged identity cards. They asked Thiwre to hand over gold valuables, worth 40,000, and mobile phone to them for checking. They returned his mobile phone but stole the valuables with sleight of hand.
In another incident, two persons, matching the description of the accused in the first case, accosted
Sanjay Gawte (48), a dry cleaner, while he was walking on Canal Road in
Nandanvan at 10:15am. The duo asked him to show his valuables and cash on the pretext of investigation. Without him realizing, they relieved him of valuables worth 70,000, including 49,000 cash.
The tricksters also relieved 56-year-old government employee
Eknath Wankar, a resident of Sharda Square on Old Subedar Layout Road, of gold valuables worth 75,000. They intercepted him near
Dhanvantari Clinic in the jurisdiction of
Hudkeshwar police station. The complainant identified the miscreants in the CCTV footage.
A couple of months ago, similar incidents took place within the limits of Sadar and Ajni police stations on a single day, within a span of 20 minutes. The culprits are yet to be traced.
