KARACHI: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has appointed a retired officer, Mukarrum Sultan Bukhari, in grade-19 as Advisor to the entity in violation of Supreme Court’s orders. The post of technical officer was lying vacant for a while while Bukhari had been discharging his duties as an administrative official before his retirment. He is currently drawing Rs 60,000 per month as pension so he would get Rs 150,000 additionally from his new appointment. Director General KDA Nasir Abbas said Bukhari is a seasonal officer and they want to get professional benefits from his past experiences. “After his appointment, KDA would become more vibrant to discharge its obligations in the interest of the people,” said Nasir. Nasir Abbas has also appointed Muhammad Mateen and Shamsheer Khan (grade-17 retired officials) on contract on Rs 100,000 per month salary each along with other fringe benefits. These appointments were made despite complaints by Wajahat Hussain and Traiq (former KDA officials) to Secretary Local Body that this was an open violation of SC’s orders. A similar complaint was also lodged against Bukhari. Meanwhile, Akhlaq Ahmad (a research officer in Local Government Sindh) has posted Afaq Saeed as Municipal Commissioner South in violations of the SC’s orders. He was serving as an account officer in DMC east on cadre post and his cadre and grade have not been mentioned in his new posting. It is pertinent to mention here that despite written declaration by local body departments in SC ; the appointments and postings are still being made.
