The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on Saturday hit back at the former Punjab cricketers, who have revolted against the state association. More than 25 ex-Ranji players from Punjab had threatened to form a parallel body if the PCA didn't implement the Lodha committee reforms unconditionally .
Ready to accept Lodha reforms, but need time to implement: PCA
On Friday, the ex-cricketers had also accused the PCA of financial irregularities. They had also charged the PCA of including former cricketers in its executive committee. The former cricketers had cited the Lodha recommendations, which make it mandatory that cricketers should be part of a state association's executive committee.
PCA, point by point, refuted every allegation levelled by the group of former cricketers - headed by Rakesh Handa.
On implementing Lodha reforms, PCA secretary GS Walia, said, "We are not at all averse to implement the Lodha committee reforms. We accept the proposals, but we need some time to implement it fully. PCA is an association made of district bodies like Amritsar, Patiala, Mohali, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. So to execute the reforms in its totality, one needs time. That's all we have asked for.
"In fact, Mr Pandove (the secretary general of PCA) tells us that the association should relieve him. He says, I am more than 70 and it's time for me to relax, not take the burden of day-to-day affairs of the association. It's time for younger people to take over'. But we have urged and requested him to stay for a while so that the transition happens seamlessly," Walia added.
