Jaipur: Questioning the significance of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE), private schools in state have demanded to replace it or bring it in a more effective manner in the new education policy, 2016. Many schools have shot letters and recommendations to the HRD ministry to bring a change in the revised draft of the new education policy which is likely to be passed in the cabinet next month.
Most of them contended that CCE has become a time-consuming activity for students affecting the core academics.
tnn Some mentioned that CCE exercises require students to sit on internet for hours to download material defeating the purpose of making them more creative. As per CCE pattern, 20% marks are for formative assessment and 80% marks for summative assessment.
Karuna Yadav, principal of Kapil Gyanpeeth School, said, "It could have been a wonderful exercise had the state made some provisions of counselling parents. Parents still fail to understand the concept behind such exercises. Many parents complain about not teaching their wards in a traditional manner."
K B Kothari, managing director of Pratham, in his letter has questioned the success of CCE without proper preparation and training. "It requires community and paternal engagement, especially in government schools. If this concept is implemented in its true spirit, board exams are not required," Kothari said.
