MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Militants from Daesh jihadist group burned down a pharmaceutical plant in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh, near Mosul, a source told Sputnik news agency.

According to the source familiar with the matter, the plant received an international ISO certification in 2007 and was considered one of the best pharmaceutical plants in the northern part of the country.

On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from Daesh. According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation, backed by airstrikes carried out by the US-led international coalition.
