The Nasarawa State Government received a total of N268,762,182,507.27 as its share of allocations from the Federal Government between June 2011 and March 2016, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.

It was gathered that within the period, the state government received loans of about N28,956,000,000.

According to findings by SUNDAY PUNCH, the state government was able to generate N21,820,588,117.21 as its internally generated revenue between 2011 to 2016.

Workers in Nasarawa recently expressed their displeasure over the state government’s inability to pay salaries and deduction of workers’ salaries by 50 per cent, despite the aforementioned returns from the Federation Account and IGR in the state.

Some civil servants in the state, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as unfortunate.

“It is a very unfortunate situation because workers’ salaries are not to be used for development as claimed by Governor Umaru Al-Makura,” one of the state workers said.

Another added, “We have paid our taxes and union dues, even with the current deduction forced on us by the governor.”

According to the workers, despite the deductions from their incomes, the state government did not reduce taxation.

“Even in the meeting we had with stakeholders and the organised labour in the state, it was not agreed that the state government should deduct from workers’ salaries in the state,” one of the workers said.
